Before you set out

Your journey, at your pace.

N64 route. The 3DS remake changes saving, swimming, and bosses; these strategies follow the original.

  • Bank rupees before resetting time.
  • Play the Song of Time backward to slow time.
  • Reset before temples when needed; songs and permanent equipment remain.

01

The first three days

0 / 3 steps

Recover the ocarina.

Route and puzzle solutions

  1. Find the missing Stray Fairy and return it to the Great Fairy. Use Deku bubbles to pop the balloon, complete the Bombers' hide-and-seek game and note your own password.

  2. Reach the observatory, look through the telescope and collect the Moon's Tear. Trade it to the Business Scrub to access the flower beneath the Clock Tower.

  3. At midnight on the final night, reach Skull Kid and recover the ocarina with a bubble. Play the Song of Time, then learn the Song of Healing and return for the Great Fairy's Mask.

Checkpoints

A useful detail

After resetting, visit the Happy Mask Salesman to learn the Song of Healing.

02

Southern Swamp and Woodfall

0 / 3 steps

Free the first giant.

Route and puzzle solutions

  1. Bring medicine to Koume in the Woods of Mystery and use the boat tour to reach the Deku Palace. Follow the monkey's route and learn the Sonata of Awakening.

  2. Open Woodfall Temple as Deku Link. Obtain the Bow, light distant torches with arrows through flames and use Deku flowers to cross the central room.

  3. Against Odolwa on N64, create openings with the sword and other weapons while avoiding summoned enemies. On 3DS, use a Deku aerial attack to expose the eye, then strike it. Carry the rescued princess back in a bottle.

Checkpoints

A useful detail

Activate owl statues as you travel for later Song of Soaring warps.

03

The mountain in winter

0 / 3 steps

Restore spring.

Route and puzzle solutions

  1. Follow Darmani with the Lens of Truth and play the Song of Healing. Use hot spring water to thaw the Goron elder, then complete the lullaby with his child.

  2. Play the Goron Lullaby at Snowhead. Obtain Fire Arrows and use them to thaw frozen switches; adjust the central pillar and remove its marked sections with Goron punches.

  3. Roll after Goht and hit it with Goron spikes. In 3DS, attack its exposed eye when it falls. Before resetting time, use the restored spring for the Goron race and sword-upgrade chain.

Checkpoints

A useful detail

Manage the central pillar from the dungeon map rather than repeatedly circling one floor.

04

A horse and seven eggs

0 / 3 steps

Open Great Bay Temple.

Route and puzzle solutions

  1. Use a Powder Keg to open Romani Ranch early in a cycle, learn Epona's Song and reach the coast. Heal Mikau to obtain the Zora Mask.

  2. In the Pirate Fortress, obtain the Hookshot and collect four Zora eggs. Empty bottles at the Marine Research Laboratory between trips if you cannot carry all four.

  3. Find the remaining three eggs at Pinnacle Rock, using the seahorse to navigate the murky water. Deliver all seven to the laboratory and learn the New Wave Bossa Nova.

Chapter references

Checkpoints

A useful detail

The hatched eggs teach New Wave Bossa Nova; play it to Lulu as a Zora.

05

Great Bay's machinery

0 / 3 steps

Restore the ocean's current.

Route and puzzle solutions

  1. Play the song for Lulu to awaken the turtle and Hookshot onto its trees. Inside the temple, follow coloured pipes to valves rather than swimming randomly through the central machinery.

  2. Obtain Ice Arrows, use them for frozen stepping stones or enemy platforms, and reverse the central water flow to access the remaining branches. The 3DS version limits where ice platforms can form.

  3. Against Gyorg, keep access to a safe platform and attack its weak point when exposed. In 3DS, the later underwater phase requires you to release underwater mines when the boss inhales.

Checkpoints

A useful detail

A bottle of magic recovery helps with prolonged Zora combat.

06

The voices of Ikana

0 / 3 steps

Learn the Elegy of Emptiness.

Route and puzzle solutions

  1. Win the Garo's Mask from the Gorman brothers, then enter Ikana. Play the Song of Storms for Sharp to restore the river and allow the Music Box House sequence.

  2. Reach Pamela's father without frightening her away and play the Song of Healing for the Gibdo Mask. Wear it underground and bring the supplies requested by the Gibdos.

  3. Collect the Mirror Shield, use reflected light in Ikana Castle and expose the throne room to sunlight. Defeat the king and his guards, then learn the Elegy of Emptiness.

Checkpoints

A useful detail

Carry bottles and check each Gibdo's request before giving away supplies.

07

The inverted tower

0 / 3 steps

Free the fourth giant.

Route and puzzle solutions

  1. Use the Elegy with different forms to leave statues on the tower's switches. Inside, collect Light Arrows before trying to invert the dungeon.

  2. Shoot the red emblem outside with a Light Arrow. Revisit the inverted rooms, remembering that ceilings become routes and treasure positions change in relation to you.

  3. Collect all fifteen Stray Fairies across both orientations before returning them. Twinmold uses the Giant's Mask differently in N64 and 3DS; in 3DS, defeat the first worm before the giant phase becomes available.

Checkpoints

A useful detail

Refill magic before Twinmold; the Giant's Mask drains it.

08

The final night

0 / 3 steps

Stop the falling Moon.

Route and puzzle solutions

  1. Carry the four boss remains to the Clock Tower at midnight on the final night. Play the Oath to Order to stop the Moon and enter it.

  2. Complete the children's optional trials before approaching the child beneath the tree. Bringing all twenty non-transformation masks lets you earn the Fierce Deity's Mask.

  3. Attack the back of Majora's Mask or reflect its beams when appropriate. Follow the moving Incarnation carefully, then use ranged stuns and sword openings against the whip-wielding final form.

Collection field guide

Plan your final discoveries.

Use these routes alongside the edition-specific counters. The references link to individual locations and additional maps.

A three-day completion plan

  1. Separate permanent rewards from events reset by the Song of Time. Bank rupees and return dungeon Stray Fairies before rewinding; temporary fairies do not carry over.

  2. Reserve a dedicated cycle for Anju and Kafei. Keep the Notebook's appointments in order and use separate cycles for mutually exclusive delivery rewards.

  3. Combine regional heart and mask errands with the appropriate transformation, then use the Moon trials for the final hearts. Check the bottle list for your edition because the remake adds another bottle.
