Open the Temple of Time, awaken as adult Link and recover the Hookshot from Dampe's grave.
Return to the castle drawbridge
Approach Castle Town from Hyrule Field. After the escape scene, dive into the moat and retrieve the Ocarina of Time. Zelda's message teaches the Song of Time.
Open the Door of Time
Enter the Temple of Time through the path beside the market. Stand before its altar and play the Song of Time. With all three Spiritual Stones collected, the door opens. Enter and pull the Master Sword.
Listen to Rauru and Sheik
The story moves seven years ahead. Rauru gives you the Light Medallion; Sheik explains the temples. Leave through the ruined market and cross the field toward Kakariko Village.
Enter Dampe's grave
Go to the graveyard. On the left, locate the grave marked by flowers where Dampe is buried. Pull it back and descend. Speak to his ghost and follow his race, avoiding the flames he drops and choosing quick turns at the forks.
Take the Hookshot
Finish the race before the final door closes and speak to Dampe. Open the chest for the Hookshot. A time under one minute is not required for this item. Beyond the chest, play the Song of Time by the blue block to clear the exit and climb into the windmill.
Remember the windmill's song
As adult Link, speak to the windmill musician and show him the Ocarina. Repeat the Song of Storms. This creates access to the Bottom of the Well when you revisit Kakariko as a child later.
Find the temple above the meadow
Return to Kokiri Forest. In the Lost Woods, take right, left, right; play Saria's Song to Mido so he lets you pass, then continue left, straight, left, right. Pass the Moblins in the meadow using corners and the Hookshot from safe angles. Dodge the club-wielding Moblin's shock waves, then climb to Sheik.
Learn the Minuet of Forest
After Sheik teaches the warp song, aim the Hookshot at the branch above the temple entrance. Pull yourself up and enter the Forest Temple.

Notes from the archive.
- You cannot freely return to childhood until after the Forest Temple. Complete that temple, then meet Sheik again at the Temple of Time.
- Epona is optional for this route: later, the Longshot can cross the broken Gerudo Valley bridge.
